Introduction to the area

The immediate area around Pure South offers a mix of natural beauty and cultural attractions for visitors to explore. One of the main draws is the picturesque Marina La Duquesa, where tourists can stroll along the promenade, enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants, or simply relax by the marina. For those interested in history, a visit to Castillo de la Duquesa, a restored castle overlooking the coast, provides insight into the region's past. Nature enthusiasts can head to Punta Chullera Beach or Sendero Serrano for hikes and walks. Then you’ve got an unlimited number of world class golf courses within 30 minutes! Manilva is also known for its local vineyards, offering wine tastings and tours. Whether seeking relaxation or adventure, the area has something to offer every type of traveller.

Accessing the Property

You’ll have been given a gate for entry and a block. You can check the complex map to see where you are! You’ll have two keys, one for the external gates and one for the front door. You can access the complex via any gate.

Community Bins and Recycling

Community bins, split by recycling for glass, paper, card etc are on the main road outside the gate. These are positioned on Calle Estocolmo and Calle Upsala (See complex map)

Exploring the Area

Nice Walks

  • Sendero Serrano Walking Area: Turn left out of the gate and keep walking up the hill past the villas and other houses until you reach the sign for Sendero Serrano walking area. This area offers beautiful views, natural surroundings, and a peaceful environment perfect for a morning or evening walk. There are markers mapping the route and there is a 5km and 10km option.

  • Beach Walk to Duquesa: Down the hill and over the bridge to the beach. Look for the ‘Pedrazas Beach’ sign and walk down to find Manilva Beach Bar. This is a great spot to relax before continuing your walk. The walk along the beach to Duquesa Marina takes about 30 minutes and is very pleasant. You’ll pass several other beach bars along the way and is a great way to get familiar with the area.

Duquesa Marina (Puerto de la Duquesa)

Duquesa Marina is the main town and offers a variety of activities and dining options. Some recommendations include:

  • Restaurants:

    • Fogo Portuguese - Nice place with regular classy events held there

    • La Traviata: Italian cuisine with great pizza and pasta dishes.

    • Slow Boat to China - Our favourite Chinese & Thai place, good value and huge portions

    • Marlows Fish and Chips: Slightly outside the marina on the main road, but traditional British fish and chips with a friendly team (as seen on TV!)

    • Coto Steak House - Newly refurbished with great reviews for steak and other grills

    • The Mex: Delicious Mexican food with a vibrant atmosphere.

    • La Bodega: Authentic Tapas in a cosy environment often with live entertainment

    • Sabor Toscano: Authentic Italian dishes with fresh ingredients.

    • Kinsale Bar & Restaurant: Irish pub with hearty meals and a great selection of beers.

    • El Hacho: Mediterranean cuisine with stunning views of the marina.

    • Heaven Cocktail Bar: Enjoy cocktails with a view over the marina.

    • Il Capitano: Fresh seafood and Mediterranean dishes.

  • Shops and Boutiques: Explore local boutiques for unique souvenirs, clothing, and accessories.

  • Water Activities: The marina offers various water sports such as jet skiing, sailing, and paddleboarding. There are also boat tours available for dolphin watching and exploring the coastline.

Nearby Attractions

  • Alcazaba Lagoon: A beautiful man-made lagoon perfect for a day trip. Enjoy water activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, or simply relax by the crystal-clear waters. There are also restaurants and bars around the lagoon. More info

  • Sublim Beach Club: A fancy day club offering a luxurious beach experience with comfortable loungers, excellent service, and a vibrant atmosphere. Perfect for a day of relaxation and enjoyment. More info

  • Castellar de la Frontera: About 40 minutes from here towards Cadiz is a castle with a village inside it. Very crafty and arty kind of place, making for a good afternoon out.

  • Zoo de Castellar: A sanctuary and wildlife center where they rescue animals. Spend time with a baby tiger here, another lovely day out. About 30 minutes from here, again towards Cadiz.

  • Bahia Park Algeciras: A water park about 30 minutes from here, perfect for a fun-filled day. More info

  • Roman Oasis and Roman Baths: About 10 minutes from here. Offers crazy golf, food and drinks, and a cracking BBQ party night on Fridays in the summer. More info

  • Nilva Winery and Vineyard, Manilva Pueblo: Offers wine and cheese tasting experiences. Great views from on up high! More info

Beach Bars (Chiringuitos)

We recommend visiting the following beach bars, again all walkable starting at Manilva Beach.

One of our favorite activities is to walk down to Manilva Beach Bar and then explore the run of 5 beach bars that lead into the Marina. It's a great way to spend a few hours and get a feel for the area.

  • Cubanga Beach: Known for its lively atmosphere and excellent seafood.

  • Manilva Beach: A relaxed spot perfect for a laid-back afternoon.

  • Romeos: Offers a great selection of tapas and drinks.

  • Las Gaviotas: Known for its beautiful sunset views and refreshing cocktails.

Transport and Getting Around

  • Uber: Download the Uber app, which is active in the area for convenient transport.

  • Taxi Rank: From the Marina, there is a taxi rank. Just ask for "Princess Kristina por favor!" and they will get you to the Princess Kristina statue and you’ll know where you are from there.

On Check-Out

Mostly hands off but :

  • Strip the Beds: Remove the sheets from any beds that have been used.

  • Take Out the Rubbish: Take out any bags before you leave if you could. This helps prevent ants and other pests, as the cleaning team may not arrive until later in the day.
